Description
This lesson teaches the basics of computer hardware and software while letting students explore what’s inside the computer!
Start with a PowerPoint presentation to the class, then students create a PowerPoint to reinforce their knowledge of computer parts. Next, they’ll use Excel in a project to research and “build” from scratch two computers of their own.
Unit includes:
1. Unit overview and Teacher Resources
2. PowerPoint presentation (hardware and software)
3. Student Project: Learning the parts of the computer (PowerPoint)
4. Student Project: Research and Build a Computer (Excel)
5. Excel Template for Students for Project #4
My 7th and 8th graders loved this project – particularly when they got to take apart and reassemble old computers that were donated to us at the end of the unit! I hope your students enjoy it as well.
